मार्च 1965 पासून राज्यात अन्न व नागरी पुरवठा विभाग स्वतंत्र युनिट म्हणून अस्तित्वात आला. या व्यवस्थेपूर्वी कृषी, अन्न व सहकार विभागाचा हा एक भाग होता. विभाग मुख्यत: खुल्या बाजारात तसेच सार्वजनिक वितरण प्रणालीतील विविध जीवनावश्यक वस्तूंच्या मागणी आणि पुरवठ्यावर कार्य करतो. विभागाची मूलभूत जबाबदारी ही आहे की किंमती स्थिरता आणि वजन व उपाययोजनांकरिता आवश्यक वस्तू कायदा 1955 च्या संदर्भात पारित केलेले विविध नियंत्रण आदेशांची अंमलबजावणी करणे.
Main Objectives Of The Maha Food
- To strengthen the Targeted Public Distribution System.
- To ensure easy availability of Essential Commodities at reasonable rates.
- To create a storage facility for the public distribution system.
- To promote and protect the rights of consumers by way of implementation of the Consumer Protection Act, 1986.

Maha Food Ration Cards Scheme
There is three type ration card the in India, According to that, we get the ration fro every month. So ration is three types:
- White
- Orange
- Yellow
So we will see what is the Benefit of the three types of ration cards. How they are divided.
White Ration Cards
The families having an annual income of Rs. 1 Lakh or above ( More than 1 Lakh), any member of the family possess a four-wheeler or the family aggregately holding more than 4 hectares irrigated land are eligible to get white ration cards.
Yellow Ration Cards
Yellow Ration card also called as BPL ( Below Poverty Level )
- Families having annual income up to Rs. 15,000/-
- None of the members in the family should be a doctor or lawyer or architect or chartered accountant.
- None of the members in the family should be professional taxpayers, sales taxpayers,s or income taxpayers, or eligible to pay such tax.
- The family should not possess a residential telephone.
- The family should not possess a four-wheeler vehicle.
- All the persons in the family should not hold a total of two hectares of Jirayat land or one-hectare seasonal irrigated land or half a
- hectare of irrigated (double in drought-affected areas) land.
Saffron Ration Cards ( Orange Ration card )
Families having annual income above Rs.15,000 and below Rs.1 lakh
None of the members of the family should have four-wheelers mechanical vehicles (excluding taxis). The family in all should not possess four-hectare or more irrigated land.
Saffron Ration Card ( केशर रेशन कार्डे )
श्रीमंत कुटुंबे पीडीएसअंतर्गत धान्य खरेदी करत नाहीत आणि म्हणूनच धान्य पळविण्याला आळा घालण्यासाठी आणि गरजू कुटुंबांना अधिक धान्य उपलब्ध करून देण्याच्या उद्देशाने राज्य सरकार. तिरंगा रेशन कार्ड योजना डब्ल्यू.ई.एफ. 1 मे, 1999. त्या अनुषंगाने खालील निकषांनुसार राज्यात 3 वेगवेगळ्या रंगांचे रेशनकार्ड जारी करण्यात आले.
White Ration card ( श्वेत शिधापत्रिका )
वार्षिक कुटुंबे रू. 1 लाख किंवा त्याहून अधिक, कुटुंबातील कोणत्याही सदस्याकडे चारचाकी वाहन आहे किंवा एकूण 4 हेक्टरपेक्षा जास्त सिंचनाखाली असलेली जमीन पांढरा रेशनकार्ड घेण्यास पात्र आहे.
पिवळ रेशन कार्डे
वार्षिक कमाई 15000 असलेले
कुटुंबातील सदस्यांपैकी कोणीही डॉक्टर, वकील किंवा आर्किटेक्ट किंवा चार्टर्ड अकाउंटंट असू नये.
कुटुंबातील कोणताही सदस्य व्यावसायिक करदाता, विक्री करदाता किंवा आयकर भरणारा किंवा असा कर भरण्यास पात्र असावा.
कुटुंबाकडे निवासी टेलिफोन असू नये.
कुटुंबाकडे चारचाकी वाहन असू नये.
